Looking at the Cost of Funerals

The cost of funerals is not something which should be taken lightly. More and more people are starting to realise that this is the case and as a result an increasing number of individuals are making the choice to plan for and invest in their funerals while they are still alive. In trying to avoid the huge cost of funerals out of pocket people take out funeral insurance policies and/or approach a funeral home with the intent of paying the funeral home monetarily or using an investment to cater for a prepaid funeral contract. In both instances the funeral is essentially taken care of prior to death.

Funeral companies and funeral homes offer complete packages where funerals are concerned and as such the large majority of individuals may not completely be aware of the cost of funerals.

Typically, the cost of funerals is as follows:

Cost of funerals Paying for the coffin in which the body will be laid to rest.
• The cost of transporting members of the family and congregation as well as friends to the cemetery, family home and/or church as is applicable.
• There are costs associated with leaving the body of the deceased in the care of a funeral home or undertaker from the time the body is released by the mortuary until the time of burial. In addition to this, undertakers and funeral homes also charge to have the body delivered to the church or venue where the service is to be held and generally for providing a hearse also.
• Another cost of funerals that not many people think of or consider is that more often than not there is a doctor who is called upon to examine the body and him or she must also be paid along with the minister who officiates.
• An additional significant purchase is that of the burial plot.
• There are charges associated with using a crematorium in the event that the family opts for a cremation.

It is important, whether the family or individual opts for a funeral to be handled by an undertaker or funeral home, that any and all costs of funerals are kept tabs on and monitored.
